Windmill Hill Reservoir and Trunk Watermain Project
Shareridge is proud to announce the completion of the Windmill Hill Reservoir and Trunk Watermain project in County Meath, delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann. This vital project is set to transform water supply for the communities of Ratoath, Kilbride, and Ashbourne, ensuring a secure and reliable service now and for years to come.
What the Project Involved
This major investment saw the construction of a 4.7-million-litre elevated treated water reservoir at Windmill Hill, along with 7km of new watermains running to Ratoath. The new pipeline replaces old asbestos cement mains that were prone to bursts, bringing a much-needed upgrade to the area’s water infrastructure.
The reservoir provides up to 24 hours of storage, boosting water pressure during busy times and giving the system extra resilience. It also ensures there’s enough capacity to support future housing, business, and economic growth in East Meath.
What This Means for the Community
- Better Water Pressure: Especially noticeable in Ratoath during peak times, ensuring a more consistent supply for homes and businesses.
- Fewer Supply Interruptions: The new pipeline will mean less disruption caused by bursts and breakdowns.
- Room for Growth: With improved infrastructure, the region is now well-equipped to handle future developments, whether that’s new housing estates, businesses, or other community needs.
A Team Effort
This project wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the Shareridge team, and their continued effort to deliver such a significant upgrade.
The completion of the works was marked with an opening event at Windmill Hill Reservoir, attended by Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council Sharon Tolan. Councillor Tolan summed it up perfectly: “A secure and reliable water supply is essential for a thriving community. This project supports the people and businesses here today while laying the foundations for sustainable growth in the future.”
Making a Difference
At Shareridge, we’re delighted to have delivered this critical project for Meath. It’s not just about pipes and reservoirs – it’s about supporting communities, improving lives, and ensuring that the infrastructure is there to help the region grow and prosper. We’d like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we carried out the works.
Looking Ahead
With the new reservoir and watermain now operational, the people of Ratoath, Kilbride, and Ashbourne can rely on a water supply that’s built to last. This project is part of Uisce Éireann’s wider strategy to strengthen water infrastructure across the country, and we’re proud to have delivered this essential project on their behalf.
