Shareridge have completed the O’Connell Street Enhancement project, transforming Sligo’s busiest commercial and pedestrian zone. This initiative aimed to elevate the pedestrian experience and create a more attractive, interconnected urban environment, revitalizing underdeveloped sites around O’Connell Street to foster commercial and residential opportunities.
As the flagship project of Sligo City’s Global Public Realm Strategy, our work set the benchmark for future developments. We enhanced the image of O’Connell Street by upgrading public spaces, preserving heritage, protecting archaeological items, encouraging exploration of Sligo, and supporting local businesses.
Project Scope
The project included extensive refurbishment on O’Connell Street, from its junctions with Wine Street, Fish Quay, Lower Knox Street, Grattan Street, and John Street, to the main body of O’Connell Street. We aimed to create an inviting urban space with improved connectivity to pedestrian areas like Tobergal Lane and Rockwood Parade.
The project officially opened in October 2023, marking a significant milestone in urban development and pedestrian-friendly spaces in Sligo.
